Like ELF for all symbols, COFF can record size for at least function
ones. Use that - if available - in preference to the distance-to-next-
symbol heuristic.
To be able to use the new test there, make TI C54x follow TI C4x in
providing .sdef to cover for .def already having different meaning.
Adds two new external authors to etc/update-copyright.py to cover
bfd/ax_tls.m4, and adds gprofng to dirs handled automatically, then
updates copyright messages as follows:
1) Update cgen/utils.scm emitted copyrights.
2) Run "etc/update-copyright.py --this-year" with an extra external
author I haven't committed, 'Kalray SA.', to cover gas testsuite
files (which should have their copyright message removed).
3) Build with --enable-maintainer-mode --enable-cgen-maint=yes.
4) Check out */po/*.pot which we don't update frequently.

There are some known limitations for now,
* Do not shrink the length of the uleb128 value, even if the value is reduced
after relaxations. Also reports error if the length grows up.
* The R_RISCV_SET_ULEB128 needs to be paired with and be placed before the
R_RISCV_SUB_ULEB128.
bfd/
* bfd-in2.h: Regenerated.
* elfnn-riscv.c (perform_relocation): Perform R_RISCV_SUB_ULEB128 and
R_RISCV_SET_ULEB128 relocations. Do not shrink the length of the
uleb128 value, and report error if the length grows up. Called the
generic functions, _bfd_read_unsigned_leb128 and _bfd_write_unsigned_leb128,
to encode the uleb128 into the section contents.
(riscv_elf_relocate_section): Make sure that the R_RISCV_SET_ULEB128
must be paired with and be placed before the R_RISCV_SUB_ULEB128.

R_RISCV_SET_ULEB128.
(riscv_reloc_map): Likewise.
(riscv_elf_ignore_reloc): New function.
* libbfd.h: Regenerated.

New relocations to support .uleb128 subtraction.

(riscv_insert_uleb128_fixes): New function, scan uleb128 subtraction

(riscv_md_finish): Called riscv_insert_uleb128_fixes for all sections.

* testsuite/ld-riscv-elf/uleb128*: New testcase for uleb128 subtraction.
binutils/
* testsuite/binutils-all/nm.exp: Updated since RISCV supports .uleb128.
Delete a few files only used for obsolete targets, and tidy config,
xfails and other pieces of support specific to those targets. And
since I was editing target triplets in test files, fix the nm
alpha-linuxecoff fails.
The newer update-copyright.py fixes file encoding too, removing cr/lf
on binutils/bfdtest2.c and ld/testsuite/ld-cygwin/exe-export.exp, and
embedded cr in binutils/testsuite/binutils-all/ar.exp string match.

* nm.c (non_weak): New variable.
(filter_symbols): When non-weak is true, ignore weak symbols.
(long_options): Add --no-weak.
(usage): Mention --no-weak.
(main): Handle -W/--no-weak.
* doc/binutils.texi: Document new feature.
* NEWS: Mention the new feature.
* testsuite/binutils-all/nm.exp: Add test of new feature.
* testsuite/binutils-all/no-weak.s: New test source file.
The result of running etc/update-copyright.py --this-year, fixing all
the files whose mode is changed by the script, plus a build with
--enable-maintainer-mode --enable-cgen-maint=yes, then checking
out */po/*.pot which we don't update frequently.
The copy of cgen was with commit d1dd5fcc38ead reverted as that commit
breaks building of bfp opcodes files.
As discussed previously, a.out support is now quite deprecated, and in
some cases removed, in both Binutils itself and NetBSD, so this legacy
default makes little sense. `netbsdelf*` and `netbsdaout*` still work
allowing the user to be explicit about there choice. Additionally, the
configure script warns about the change as Nick Clifton requested.
One possible concern was the status of NetBSD on NS32K, where only a.out
was supported. But per [1] NetBSD has removed support, and if it were to
come back, it would be with ELF. The binutils implementation is
therefore marked obsolete, per the instructions in the last message.
With that patch and this one applied, I have confirmed the following:
--target=i686-unknown-netbsd
--target=i686-unknown-netbsdelf
builds completely
--target=i686-unknown-netbsdaout
properly fails because target is deprecated.
--target=vax-unknown-netbsdaout builds completely except for gas, where
the target is deprecated.

bfd * dwarf2.c (struct varinfo): Add unit_offset field to record the
location of the varinfo in the unit's debug info data. Change the

This is a followup to "binutils nm testsuite tidy". Since the perror
in binutils_assemble has been removed, we need to take more care in
failure paths.
The patch also fixed a number of .exp files that have multiple tests,
where an assembly failure returns from the .exp file. In most cases
it is nicer to attempt all tests.

* testsuite/binutils-all/objdump.exp: Report assembly fails.
We can run the gnu_unique_object symbol test on all ELF targets.
Those that don't support the symbol type and fail to assemble can just
be resolved as "unsupported". This means binutils_assemble can't
report an error on assembly failure, but it probably should never have
done that anyway.
* testsuite/lib/utils-lib.exp (default_binutils_assemble_flags):
Don't perror on assembler diagnostic output.

ELF targets. Resolve as "unsupported" on assembly failure.
