strip: Add GCC LTO IR support
added "-R .gnu.lto_.*" to strip to remove all GCC LTO sections. When
"-R .gnu.lto_.*" is used, the plugin target is ignored so that all LTO
sections are stripped as the regular sections. It works for the slim
GCC LTO IR since the GCC LTO IR is stored in the regular sections. When
the plugin target is ignored, the GCC LTO IR can be recognized as the
normal object files. But it doesn't work for the slim LLVM IR which
is stored in a standalone file.
1. Add bfd_check_format_matches_lto and bfd_check_format_lto to take an
argument, lto_sections_removed, to indicate if all LTO sections should
be removed.
2. Update strip to always enable the plugin target so that the plugin
target is enabled when checking for bfd_archive.
3. Update strip to ignore the plugin target for bfd_object when all LTO
sections should be removed. If the object is unknown, copy it as an
unknown file without any messages.
4. Treat the "-R .llvm.lto" strip option as removing all LTO sections.

Correct TCL errors trying to access error output file in commit
ef7a634dc0. In fact, get rid of the output file test entirely since
gas exit status is sufficient.
Also there is no need to firstly check for ELF support.
Set check_as_sframe_result, and remove ld-lib.exp check_as_sframe.
Move gas_sframe_check to binutils-common.exp so that it can be used in
linker tests to check if a target assembler supports --gsframe.

This allows you to specify a run_dump_test warning that may or may not
be present using
warning: (warning_text_goes_here)?
ie. the regexp matches an empty string.
The noxfail option is useful in situations like pr23658-1e which
fails on all microblaze ELF targets except microblaze-linux. This was
possible to handle by writing a small proc and use that as an xfail
predicate, or painstakingly listing all microblaze ELF targets, but
this is simpler. The patch also fixes some other FAILs and XPASSes of
the pr23658 tests.

As LoongArch does not have -z dynamic-undefined-weak, we don't need to

The linker relaxation adds another layer of complexity. When we delete
bytes in a section during relaxation, we need to fix up the offset in
the to-be-packed relative relocations against this section.

Implement a helper to construct a relative path between two locations in
the filesystem, for example to make a path from the source to the object
directory for the case where a tool has been set up to look at a given
path and there is a need to point it elsewhere, but an absolute path
will not work. The helper works on normalized paths internally, so the
result is correct even in the presence of symlinks as intermediate path
components.
So given "/path/to/src/gas/testsuite/gas/all" as the FROM argument and
then "/path/to/obj/gas/testsuite/tmpdir/none.s" as the TO argument the
helper will return "../../../../../obj/gas/testsuite/tmpdir/none.s" in
the absence of symlinks.

On DOS systems, absolute paths start with the drive letter. This can
trigger failures in the regexp from dump tests, especially for those
checking for warnings or errors. They are usually skipping everything
before the first ":" as it has to be the file path.

In order to avoid modifying many regexps to allow such drive letters,
prune them from all the outputs if they are found at the beginning of
a line.

It's better to positively select targets for .section support than to
try to exclude all targets that don't. Make a new is_coff_format so
we can easily select such.

bfd * elflink.c (bfd_elf_size_dynamic_sections): Display a note to the
user that the current ehaviour of creating an executable stack
because of a missing .note.GNU-stack section is deprecated and
will be changed in a future release.

PowerPC64 takes a more traditional approach to DT_RELR than x86. Count
relative relocs in check_relocs, allocate space for them and output in
the usual places but not doing so when enable_dt_relr. DT_RELR is
sized in the existing ppc stub relaxation machinery, run via the
linker's ldemul_after_allocation hook. DT_RELR is output in the same
function that writes ppc stubs, run via ldemul_finish.
This support should be considered experimental.

The result of running etc/update-copyright.py --this-year, fixing all
the files whose mode is changed by the script, plus a build with
--enable-maintainer-mode --enable-cgen-maint=yes, then checking
out */po/*.pot which we don't update frequently.
The copy of cgen was with commit d1dd5fcc38ead reverted as that commit
breaks building of bfp opcodes files.
The top level Makefile, the ld Makefile and others, define
CC_FOR_TARGET to be a compiler for the binutils target machine. This
is the compiler that should be used for almost all tests with C
source. There are _FOR_TARGET versions of CFLAGS, CXX, and CXXFLAGS
too. This was all supposed to work with the testsuite .exp files
using CC for the target compiler, and CC_FOR_HOST for the host
compiler, with the makefiles passing CC=$CC_FOR_TARGET and
CC_FOR_HOST=$CC to the runtest invocation.
One exception to the rule of using CC_FOR_TARGET is the native-only ld
bootstrap test, which uses the newly built ld to link a copy of
itself. Since the files being linked were created with the host
compiler, the boostrap test should use CC and CFLAGS, in case some
host compiler option provides needed libraries automatically.
However, bootstrap.exp used CC where it should have used CC_FOR_HOST.
I set about fixing that problem, then decided that playing games in
the makefiles with CC was a bad idea. Not only is it confusing, but
other dejagnu code knows about CC_FOR_TARGET. See dejagnu/target.exp.
So this patch gets rid of the makefile variable renaming and changes
all the .exp files to use the correct _FOR_TARGET variables.
CC_FOR_HOST and CFLAGS_FOR_HOST disappear. A followup patch will
correct bootstrap.exp to use CFLAGS, and a number of other things I
noticed.

is seen on mingw for the simple reason that gcc adds a .exe suffix on
the output file if not already present. Fix that, and tidy some objcopy

As discussed previously, a.out support is now quite deprecated, and in
some cases removed, in both Binutils itself and NetBSD, so this legacy
default makes little sense. `netbsdelf*` and `netbsdaout*` still work
allowing the user to be explicit about there choice. Additionally, the
configure script warns about the change as Nick Clifton requested.
One possible concern was the status of NetBSD on NS32K, where only a.out
was supported. But per [1] NetBSD has removed support, and if it were to
come back, it would be with ELF. The binutils implementation is
therefore marked obsolete, per the instructions in the last message.
With that patch and this one applied, I have confirmed the following:

builds completely
--target=i686-unknown-netbsdaout
properly fails because target is deprecated.
--target=vax-unknown-netbsdaout builds completely except for gas, where
the target is deprecated.

netbsdpe was deprecated in c2ce831330.
Since then, a release has passed (2.37), and it was marked obselete in
5c9cbf07f3. Unless I am mistaken, that
means we can now remove support altogether.
All branches in the "active" code are remove, and the target is
additionally marked as obsolete next to the other removed ones for
libbfd and gdb.
Per [1] from the NetBSD toolchain list, PE/COFF support was removed a
decade ago. Furthermore, the sole mention of this target in the binutils
commit history was in 2002. Together, I'm led to believe this target
hasn't seen much attention in quite a while.

output sections in the generated linker script.
Targets with existing support for .noinit did not handle unique
.noinit.* and .gnu.linkonce.n.* sections the .noinit output section,
this patch also fixes that.

The .section directive accepts the "R" flag, which indicates
SHF_GNU_RETAIN should be applied to the section.
There is not a direct mapping of SHF_GNU_RETAIN to the BFD
section flag SEC_KEEP. Keeping these flags distinct allows
SHF_GNU_RETAIN sections to be explicitly removed by placing them in
/DISCARD/.

The CTF assembler emitted by GCC has architecture-dependent pseudos in
it, and is (obviously) tightly tied to a particular set of C source
files with specific types in them. The CTF tests do run_dump_test on
some candidate input, link it using the run_dump_test ld machinery, and
compare objdump --ctf output. To avoid skew, we'd like to be able
to easily regenerate the .s being scanned so that the .c doesn't get
out of sync with it, but since GCC emits arch-dependent pseudos, we
are forced to hand-hack the output every time (quite severely on some
arches, like x86-32 and -64, where every single pseudo used is not only
arch-dependent but undocumented).
To avoid this, teach run_dump_test how to optionally compile things
given new, optional additional flags passed in in the cc option.
Only sources with the .c suffix are compiled, so there is no effect on
any existing tests. The .s files go into the tmpdir, from which
existing run_dump_test code picks them up as usual.
