3b2ca8248c Target FP: Remove convert_typed_floating from tdep files 
This patch mechanically replaces convert_typed_floating with the
equivalent target_float_convert throughout tdep files, to prepare
for the removal of doublest.{c,h}.

No functional change intended.

ac7936dfd0 s/get_regcache_arch (regcache)/regcache->arch ()/g 
This patches removes get_regcache_arch, and use regache->arch () instead.
The motivation of this change is that I am going to move some basic stuff
into a base class of regcache.  I don't need to update "client" code
regcache->arch ().  On the other hand, this patch shortens the code a
little bit.

cb85b21ba1 Remove make_show_memory_breakpoints_cleanup 
This removes make_show_memory_breakpoints_cleanup, replacing it with
make_scoped_restore_show_memory_breakpoints and updating all callers.

6394c60699 Don't use print_insn_XXX in GDB 
This is a follow-up to

  [PATCH 0/6] Unify the disassembler selection in gdb and objdump
  https://sourceware.org/ml/binutils/2017-05/msg00192.html

that is, opcodes is able to select the right disassembler, so gdb
doesn't have to select them.  Instead, gdb can just use
default_print_insn.  As a result, these print_insn_XXX are not used
out of opcodes, so this patch also moves their declarations from
include/dis-asm.h to opcodes/disassemble.h.  With this change,
GDB doesn't use any print_insn_XXX directly any more.

cd6c3b4ffc New gdbarch methods breakpoint_kind_from_pc and sw_breakpoint_from_kind 
This patch adds two gdbarch methods breakpoint_kind_from_pc and
sw_breakpoint_from_kind, and uses target_info.placed_size as "kind"
of the breakpoint.  This patch updates the usages of
target_info.placed_size.

The "kind" of a breakpoint is determined by gdbarch rather than
target, so we have gdbarch method breakpoint_kind_from_pc, and we
should set target_info.placed_size out of each implementation of
target to_insert_breakpoint.  In this way, each target doesn't have
to set target_info.placed_size any more.

This patch also sets target_info.placed_address before
target_insert_breakpoint too, so that target to_insert_breakpoint
can use it, see record_full_insert_breakpoint.

Before we call target_insert_breakpoint, we set
target_info.placed_address and target_info.placed_size like this,

      CORE_ADDR addr = bl->target_info.reqstd_address;

      bl->target_info.placed_size = gdbarch_breakpoint_kind_from_pc (bl->gdbarch, &addr);
      bl->target_info.placed_address = addr;

9a3c826307 Add some more casts (1/2) 
Note: I needed to split this patch in two, otherwise it's too big for
the mailing list.

This patch adds explicit casts to situations where a void pointer is
assigned to a pointer to the "real" type.  Building in C++ mode requires
those assignments to use an explicit cast.  This includes, for example:

 - callback arguments (cleanups, comparison functions, ...)
 - data attached to some object (objfile, program space, etc) in the form
   of a void pointer
 - "user data" passed to some function

This patch comes from the commit "(mostly) auto-generated patch to insert
casts needed for C++", taken from Pedro's C++ branch.

Only files built on x86 with --enable-targets=all are modified, so the
native files for other arches will need to be dealt with separately.

I built-tested this with --enable-targets=all and reg-tested.  To my
surprise, a test case (selftest.exp) had to be adjusted.

Here's the ChangeLog entry.  Again, this was relatively quick to make
despite the length, thanks to David Malcom's script, although I don't
believe it's very useful information in that particular case...

8d7493201c Replace some xmalloc-family functions with XNEW-family ones 
This patch is part of the make-gdb-buildable-in-C++ effort.  The idea is
to change some calls to the xmalloc family of functions to calls to the
equivalents in the XNEW family.  This avoids adding an explicit cast, so
it keeps the code a bit more readable.  Some of them also map relatively
well to a C++ equivalent (XNEW (struct foo) -> new foo), so it will be
possible to do scripted replacements if needed.

I only changed calls that were obviously allocating memory for one or
multiple "objects".  Allocation of variable sizes (such as strings or
buffer handling) will be for later (and won't use XNEW).

buildbot or people complaining that I broke their gdb.

fe978cb071 C++ keyword cleanliness, mostly auto-generated 
This patch renames symbols that happen to have names which are
reserved keywords in C++.

Most of this was generated with Tromey's cxx-conversion.el script.
Some places where later hand massaged a bit, to fix formatting, etc.
And this was rebased several times meanwhile, along with re-running
the script, so re-running the script from scratch probably does not
result in the exact same output.  I don't think that matters anyway.

changed the way breakpoints are inserted and removed such that
`insert_bp_location' can now be called with the breakpoint being handled
already in place, while previously the call was only ever made for
breakpoints that have not been put in place.  This in turn caused an
issue for software breakpoints and targets for which a breakpoint's
`placed_address' may not be the same as the original requested address.

The issue is `insert_bp_location' overwrites the previously adjusted
value in `placed_address' with the original address, that is only
replaced back with the correct adjusted address later on when
`gdbarch_breakpoint_from_pc' is called.  Meanwhile there's a window
where the value in `placed_address' does not correspond to data stored
in `shadow_contents', leading to incorrect instruction bytes being
supplied when `one_breakpoint_xfer_memory' is called to supply the
instruction overlaid by the breakpoint.

And this is exactly what happens on the MIPS target with software
breakpoints placed in microMIPS code.  In this case not only
`placed_address' is not the original address because of the ISA bit, but
`mips_breakpoint_from_pc' has to read the original instruction to
determine which one of the two software breakpoint instruction encodings
to choose as well.  The 16-bit encoding is used to replace 16-bit
instructions and similarly the 32-bit one is used with 32-bit
instructions, to satisfy branch delay slot size requirements.

The mismatch between `placed_address' and the address data in
`shadow_contents' has been obtained from leads to the wrong encoding
being used in some cases, which in the case of a 32-bit software
breakpoint instruction replacing a 16-bit instruction causes corruption
to the adjacent following instruction and leads the debug session astray
if execution reaches there e.g. with a jump.

To address this problem I made the change below, that adds a
`reqstd_address' field to `struct bp_target_info' and leaves
`placed_address' unchanged once it has been set.  This ensures data in
`shadow_contents' is always consistent with `placed_address'.

This approach also has this good side effect that all the places that
examine the breakpoint's address see a consistent value, either
`reqstd_address' or `placed_address', as required.  Currently some
places see either the original or the adjusted address in
`placed_address', depending on whether they have been called before
`gdbarch_remote_breakpoint_from_pc' or afterwards.  This is in
particular true for subsequent calls to
`gdbarch_remote_breakpoint_from_pc' itself, e.g. from
`one_breakpoint_xfer_memory'.  This is also important for places like
`find_single_step_breakpoint' where a breakpoint's address is compared
to the raw value of $pc.

efd66ac669 change minsym representation 
In a later patch we're going to change the minimal symbol address
calculation to apply section offsets at the point of use.  To make it
simpler to catch potential problem spots, this patch changes the
representation of minimal symbols and introduces new
minimal-symbol-specific variants of the various accessors.  This is
necessary because it would be excessively ambitious to try to convert
all the symbol types at once.

The core of this change is just renaming a field in minimal_symbol;
the rest is just a fairly mechanical rewording.

e362b51003 Use gdb_byte for bytes from the program being debugged. 
gdb_byte should be used for bytes from the program being debugged.  We
have many places using char or unsigned char instead all over the
existing ports, and more ends up added over time due to copy/paste as
new code is based on old code.

I've greped the tree for "char buf[", and fixed all I found.

Tested by building with --enable-targets=all.

c4de7027e3 [ia64-hpux] inferior function call support 
We have two stacks to deal with on ia64, when making a function call.
The first is the usual stack frame, and the second is the register
stack frame.  On ia64-linux, the register frame is setup by adjusting
the BSP register.  Unfortunately for us, the HP-UX kernel does not allow
the debugger to change the value of the BSP.

To work around that limitation, the method I am using here is to push
some assembly code on the stack. This assembly code contains, among
other things, a call to the alloc insn, which sets up our frame for us.
An extensive comment in ia64-hpux-tdep.c explains the entire procedure.

Despite this approach, most of the code in ia64-tdep.c which sets up
the function call is still applicable - and only a few things need
to be done differently:  For instance, instead of changing the BSP,
we do nothing.  We store the parameters at a different location, etc.
So this patch also adjusts the inf-call code in ia64-tdep.c to make it
a little more extensible: I create a new ia64_infcall_ops structure
which allows an ABI to define how the few things that need to be
differentiated.

Another element that turned out to be necessary but is more of a detail
is that the computation of the linkage pointer needs to be handled
specially for symbols inside shared libraries.  This is especially
visible when calling malloc, which happens everytime memory needs to
be allocated in inferior memory...  The special treatment included
again the necessity to use some routines only available on the host.
So another target object TARGET_OBJECT_HPUX_SOLIB_GOT was created for
that purpose.

77ca787b12 [ia64-hpux] unwinding bsp value from system call 
This fixes unwinding from a thread that is stopped inside a system call.
This can be seen when switching to a thread that is stopped doing a
pthread_cond_wait, for instance...

The comments inside the code should explain what is happening in our
case (the HP-UX exception in the case of system calls): Under certain
circumstances (program stopped inside syscall), the offset to apply to
the current BSP in order to compute the previous BSP is not the usual
CFM & 0x7f.

We parts in this patch:

  1. Figuring out that we are stopped inside a syscal: This requires
     a TT_LWP_RUREGS ttrace call, which is not directly possible from
     ia64-tdep.c.  So use defined a new TARGET_OBJECT_HPUX_UREGS object
     to request it from the -nat side.

  2. Add a gdbarch_tdep method that allows us to change the default
     behavior on ia64-hpux, permitting us to have a different "size of
     register frame" in that one particular case.

825d6d8a69 [ia64] small integral parameters and return values 
This patch fixes a small problem on ia64-hpux when calling functions
whose parameter are small integral values (less than 8 bytes).  In
that case, the parameter value was stored on the wrong side of the
register.  Same problem for return values.

With this patch, the results for gdb.base/callfuncs.exp improve from

        # of expected passes            41
        # of unexpected failures        78

To:

        # of expected passes            95
        # of unexpected failures        24

7458e66756 [ia64] Add a big-endian version of the ia64-ext floatformat 
ia64-tdep.c defines a floatformats_ia64_ext that should contain
both the little-endian and the big-endian version of the float
format used in the ia64 registers (an 82bit float format).
Right now, both entries point to the same little-endian definition.

A big-endian definition is now necessary for the ia64-hpux port.
